Current disposal costs vary; however for Greater London the cost of waste plasterboard disposal in 2004 was approximately:
  • £15/ton Landfill tax
  • £20-£30/ton landfill gate fee
  • £15/ton transport costs.
How much will it cost us to dispose of waste plasterboard to landfill in 2005?
Since 16th of July 2005 only 1 landfill site in England and Wales (in Hull) has been licensed and is accepting high sulphate bearing waste (plasterboard). The consequence of this reduction in the number of disposal sites is to significantly increase the landfill disposal costs and transport costs . The waste plasterboard disposal issue is analogous to current issues surrounding the disposal of asbestos.

Forecast costs for disposal of waste plasterboard to landfill are affected by a number of variables, however the overriding principle holds true that: waste plasterboard disposal to landfill will become significantly more expensive over time.
